アメリカ海兵隊(USMC)は、アメリカ合衆国の主要軍種の一つであり、独自の航空・地上アセットを包括的に保有する水陸両用作戦の専門部隊である。行政上は海軍省の傘下に属し、海軍の揚陸艦艇と緊密に連携して世界規模での迅速な遠征展開能力を発揮する。最大の特徴は、F-35B戦闘機やMV-22オスプレイ、JLTVやM142 HIMARSといった空地のアセットを独自の統合タスクフォースとして単独運用できる点にある。近年は「遠征前進基地作戦(EABO)」の思想に基づき、島嶼部における分散型の対艦・防空戦闘能力を強化しており、日本の自衛隊(水陸機動団等)との共同運用思想におけるクロスレファレンス性も極めて高い。
