海上自衛隊（JMSDF）は、日本の海上防衛を担う自衛隊の海軍組織で、1954年に創設された。主任務は日本周辺海域の防衛、シーレーン防護、対潜戦、機雷戦、災害派遣などである。護衛艦、潜水艦、哨戒機、掃海艇など高度な装備を保有し、特に対潜水艦戦能力は世界的にも高く評価されている。近年は弾道ミサイル防衛、離島防衛、統合作戦能力強化にも力を入れており、いずも型護衛艦の空母化改修も進められている。また、国際平和協力活動や海賊対処行動、人道支援にも積極的に参加している。
