アメリカ海軍が運用する潜水艦母艦で、前方展開中の原子力潜水艦に対して補給、整備、修理、乗員支援を行うことを目的としている。大型補修設備、工作機械、部品倉庫、医療設備を備え、港湾施設が限定された海外拠点でも潜水艦の継続運用を可能にする。Military Sealift Commandではなく米海軍の現役艦として運用され、特に太平洋地域の前方展開潜水艦部隊支援で重要な役割を担う。現在はUSS Emory S. Land (AS-39)とUSS Frank Cable (AS-40)の2隻が運用されている。
